In the bustling world of middle school education, there lies a golden opportunity to instill values that extend beyond the classroom walls. A few such crucial lessons involve the life skill of basic sewing, unraveling the threads of textile waste, and introducing the concept of upcycling as a formidable force against environmental degradation. Through this teaching process, I hope to equip the next generation with the tools to be conscientious stewards of the planet, ensuring a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
It is becoming more and more apparent to the general public just how detrimental the state of the climate and waste crisis is on our planet. Through upcycling, we are helping the environment by using what is ALREADY out in the universe. Using existing clothing and textiles as fabrics to make something new, improved, and most often, way better quality.
